The Anglican Church of Kenya’s Diocese of Kajiado has elected its second bishop.  On 26 November 2011 the diocesan synod elected the Rev. Gadiel Katanga Lenini in succession to the Rt. Rev. John Mutua Taama (who was consecrated on 3 August 1997.)

Located to the south of Nairobi along the border with Tanzania across from Mt Kilimanjaro, the diocese was formed in January 1993 and carved out of the Diocese of Nairobi.

The AKC reports that although the Diocese is in Maasai land, members of many other communities such as Kikuyu, Kamba and Luo live in the area. It is largely rural (technically semi-arid) with few resources. Agriculture is the main occupation.

A graduate of St. Paul’s College in Limuru, Rev. Katanga had been the provost of St. Emmanuel Cathedral in Kajiado. He is 42 years old married and with three children. He succeeds Bishop Daniel Taama who has served in the diocese for 14 years.

The date of the bishop’s consecration and enthronement has yet to be announced.
