The Anglican Church of Kenya (AKC) Diocese of Nakura has elected the Rev. Canon Joseph Kamwati Muchai as bishop. Meeting on 26 November 2011 the diocese elected Canon Muchai to succeed Bishop Stephen Njihia Mwangi, who was consecrated on 8 April 1990.
Formed in 1960, the Diocese of Nakura is northwest of Nairobi and centered round the town of Nakura, the capital of the Rift Valley Province.
The AKC reports the new bishop holds a Masters degree in Theology from Queens University in Belfast and is married with two children.
The date of his consecration has not yet been set.
