The Bishop of Canberra & Goulburn has appointed the diocese’s first woman assistant bishop. The Rt. Rev. Stuart Robinson has appointed Archdeacon Genieve Blackwell to be Assistant Bishop with responsibility for Wagga Wagga, the North-West and South-West of the diocese. The appointment has been endorsed by the diocesan synod and has the “Bishop in Council, the Primate and the Bishops of the Province of NSW,” he wrote on 3 December 2011.
The diocesan statement said the post would be part time, and would be combined with the positions of rector of Turvey Park and Archdeacon of Wagga Wagga.
The consecration for the new bishop is scheduled for 31 March 2012 at St. Saviours Cathedral, Goulburn. The chief Consecrator will be Dr Brain Farran, Bishop of Newcastle.
