The House of Bishops of the Church of Nigeria has elected the Very Rev Jacob Kwashi as the third Bishop of Zonkwa in the Ecclesiastical Province of Kaduna. Meeting at the Ibru Center in Agbarha-Otor, Delta State on July 6, the Nigerian bishops elected Dean Kwashi to succeed the Rt. Rev. Praises Omole-Ekun, who has become dean of the St Francis of Assisi Theological College in Wusasa, Zaria.

The Diocese of Zonkwa was carved out of Kafanchan Diocese on the 17 Sept 2004, and its first bishop, the Rt. Rev. Duke Akamisoko was consecrated on 19 March 2005. The second bishop, Bishop Omole-Ekun was consecrated on 26 April 2009. Bishop-elect Kwashi will be consecrated 25 September 2011 at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral in Lagos.
Prior to his election, Bishop-elect Kwashi served as Dean of St Michael’s Cathedral in Kaduna.
As of the end of 2010 the Diocese consisted of 81 congregations served by 31 priests and 12 catechists, and has reported strong growth since its establishment in 2004.
