On June 23, 2011 the Bishop of Hyderabad, the Rt. Rev. Rafique Masih retired. The Bishop coadjutor of Lahore, the Rt. Rev. Irfan Jamil, has been appointed episcopal commissary, or interim bishop, of the diocese until a new bishop is elected.
On Feb 5, 2011 Bishop Jamil was consecrated as coadjutor to the Rt. Rev. Alexander Malik at the Cathedral Church of the Resurrection in Lahore. He will assume office as Bishop of Lahore upon Bishop Malik’s retirement in 2012.
Prior to his election the new bishop served as vicar of St. Thomas Church, Islamabad and Advisor to the Bishop of Lahore for Evangelism. He also served for 17 years as general secretary of the Pakistan Fellowship of Evangelical Students.
