The Archbishop of Adelaide, the Most Rev. Jeffrey Driver has appointed an Assistant Bishop for Mission and Evangelism.
The appointment of the Ven. Tim Harris, Dean of Bishopdale College and Archdeacon for Theological Education and Ministry Formation in the Diocese of Nelson, New Zealand was announced by Dr. Driver on July 14, 2011.
(Note on Australian Anglican terminology: the Australian Church uses the title Assistant Bishop as opposed to the title Suffragan Bishop. Some Australian Assistant Bishops have geographic areas of responsibility and are known as, for example the Assistant Bishop of North Sydney. Other Assistant Bishops do not have geographic responsibilities but are given specific ministries, such as Bishop-elect Harris in Adelaide.)
A diocesan press release stated Bishop-elect Harris will have “some involvement with general episcopal responsibilities including confirmations and ordinations, the Bishop for Mission and Evangelism will [also] focus on the development of ‘fresh expressions’ of church, congregational planting and parish renewal.
The new bishop’s consecration will take place on Nov 20, 2011 at St Peter’s Cathedral in Adelaide.
